NEWS AND NOTES: NEW YEARS DAY EDITION

BRITAIN SOCCER

The first day of 2010 is finally here.  Most of us are saying good riddance to a very difficult 2009.  2010, should be very exciting with the World Cup only 6 months away.  Here is the first entry in the Green Army Blog of 2010.

Not much news to write about today, but there a few interesting developments.

Stuart Holden on Trial at Burnley

Holden is going on trial at Burnley.  The details of the trial are not stated but it looks like he will train with the club and play in reserve matches.  The Houston Dynamo have not given up hopes on re-signing the player.

Teal Bunbury

This years draft should be one of the best in recent years.  A majority of these names should go in the first round. In addition to the Generation Adidas class several top seniors have also signed with the league. Here is a list of signed seniors, the names in bold signed in the last 48 hours.

Toni Stahl
Zach Loyd
Andre Akpan
Austin da Luz

Eddie Johnson to Greece

Eddie Johnson has been loaned out to Greek side Aris FC.  Johnson has struggled to get regular playing time with Fulham and is hoping that Aris will give him more opportunities. Johnson looked like he was finally getting his form after a few good reserve performances and consistently making the Fulham bench. Unfortunately he has not been able to see much first team action. Freddy Adu might follow Johnson to Aris FC.  Adu, recently booted from Belenenses, is desperate for playing time.

Aris FC is coached by Hector Cooper, former Inter and Valencia boss.  The club currently sits 6th in the Greek Super League and is looking at Eddie Johnson to make an immediate impact.  Their next match is against Atromitos this coming Tuesday.

Mikkel “Mix” Diskerud

Yanks-Abroad did a great story on this young American. Check it out here: Diskerud Looking Forward to 2010
