FC Denver Premier played their fourth game of the season Real Colorado. Denver needed to come out with a win as they had tied their previous two games and needed 3 points badly. FC Denver was ready for the task on a gorgeous Colorado fall day.
FC Denver owned possession during the first 15 minutes, absolutely owned it. They were crisp and knocking the ball all over the pitch. They kept it up throughout the majority of the first half, but got fatigued as the game went on due to the heat, and the absence of a few key players.
Nonetheless, Tom Marks opened the scoring with his solo effort. His class on the finish was unmatched and he scored an excellent goal about 20 minutes into the game. The lead was short lived, as Real negated the goal almost immediately. FC Denver decided to give up a poor goal. The rest of the first half was sloppy and scoreless with FC Denver gaining most of the possession. The half finished without many scoring chances.
The second half started and FC Denver knew they needed to a win. Sure enough, FC Denver came out looking for the winner right away. They continued to knock it around, and looked very fresh compared to Real Colorado in the second half. FC Denver was absolutely killing it but couldn’t score. Finally, Roy Tewell sent blistering shot from inside the 18, but the keeper came up with an enormous save that rebounded and ricocheted to Chuy, who had an excellent shot of the post, that eventually bounced back to Roy who slotted it home. FC Denver took the lead, 2-1.
FC Denver dominated the rest of the half, but almost got beat at the end by a great chance from a Real Colorado striker. Luckily, the shot went off the post right before the final whistle blew. The second, half and whole game, was dominated by FC Denver, who just could not find the back of the net more frequently. However a result is a result that FC Denver will always take it.
Man of the Match: This week’s honor goes to the men in the middle Brennen Randquist, Tom Migchelbrink, and Dave Kroening. FC Denver had the upper hand the entire match because of their tireless effort breaking up plays and composure when keeping possession.
